Black Rock Canyon Trail Ride 03/14/21

Last weekend we headed out to Joshua Tree National Park and rode from the Blackrock campground up to Blackrock Canyon.

We had a total of 12 riders. Some from the local area and must of us from the Riverside area. It was a bit chilly as we just had a storm move through. Big jackets and gloves solved that problem. But that was the idea, we wanted a dessert snow ride. At times we were unzipping our jackets since the weather was so nice! We did see some snow at the higher elevations, but it was melting fast,

The trails are well marked with marker signs letting you know which way to go. There are beginner trails (wide, open paths), to advanced trails (technical trail – steep up or down, narrow etc). Our route of 12 miles took us all levels of trails.

We passed many hikers, and they were all respectful and watched the parade of horses ride by. Some asked if they were rentals and were surprised when we said we all trailered our horses to the staging area.

Give it a try and we highly recommend it. We will be taking the RV here at some point to camp overnight. However – they have no stalls in the campground. You must bring stalls, high tie, or electric fence for your horses.

Water is limited in the campground to one faucet. Bathrooms are a hike from the horse campground / staging area to the real water flushing toilets.
